WEDDINGS ACROSS THE WORLD
A wedding is a ceremony where people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes.
This project invites students to post and share pictures and videos of cultural wedding traditions and customs of their country.
A Hindu wedding is
called vivaha and the wedding ceremony is called vivaah sanskar. The Hindus attach a lot of importance
to marriages. The
ceremonies are very colourful, and celebrations may extend for several days. The pre-wedding and
post-wedding rituals and celebrations vary by region, preferences or the
resources of the groom, bride and their families.
In
India, where most Hindus live, by law and tradition, no Hindu marriage is
binding and complete unless the ritual of seven steps and vows in presence of
fire is completed by the bride and the groom together.
Here’ s a glimpse of a wedding that I attended of my
cousin brother few days back. Hope you all like this video depicting the
various ceremonies that take place in Indian wedding.

PRE-WEDDING CEREMONIES
Indian weddings are known for their grandeur and elaborate nature. Though the main wedding function is limited to few hours on the wedding day, the pre-wedding rituals and customs go on for no less than a week. The pre-wedding rituals consist of all the customs that are done before the wedding rituals on the Mandap or the venue of marriage. Pre-wedding rituals are of immense significance because they are considered to be auspicious and propitious for the forth coming wedding ceremony.
I and my friends have tried to capture all the important pre-wedding ceremonies in this video .
Watch and enjoy the beauty of Indian culture , tradition and custom of gettiing married .
